The specialty coffee world gathered at Rimini Expo Centre from 10-12 June 2014. Tom, Henrik and the Nicole's were lucky enough to be in attendance. The World of Coffee is Europe’s leading specialty coffee event, organised by SCAE. It was an unmissable opportunity to meet up with top baristas, roasters and other movers and shakers in the coffee industry from around the world. We saw the best of the best doing what they do in the World Barista Championships, the World Brewers Cup. the World Roasting Championships. Cezve / Ibrik Championships. The Climpson's along with a host of other top roasteries from the UK and the world took part in making coffee on La Marzocco's True Artisan Cafe.
Tom and Nicole share their experiences:
Tom: I found this year's festival to be broader and more extrospective than ever! The passion, quality and creativity of the industry is obviously vastly developing, and highs for me were the quality of coffee and new innovations at the festival, along with the La Marzocco parties and the chance to showcase our rise in quality on the True Artisan Stall; insparation wise I found hanging out with coffee professionals from Extract, Origin, Ozone, DRW and Mercanta invaluable, as well as meeting the farmers and green bean importers. The low was obviously Maxwell's 5th place, as I think the work he has done for the industry with this year's competition has been immense, and we should recognise his research. Best moment - has to be the drunken Aeropress Championship; some of the funniest and most graphic techniques I have ever seen, and I will definitely try to incorporate them in my training scheme (with a little less nudity).
Nicole (Ferris): The festival was a great opportunity for us to interact with like-minded people from all over the world. We met some truly inspiring people and watching the WBC was quite exceptional, seeing the commitment people are willing to go to for the love of specialty coffee. La Marzocco invited us to make coffee on the True Artisan Cafe whereby we showcased The Fields V2 over a two hour slot. We had fantastic feedback on the coffee and were stoked when the farmers of Finca La Argentina in Nicaragua tried our espresso – the key components of the Fields v2 were their washed and natural coffees. The La Marzocco beach parties at the end of a long day of coffee overload were welcome respite, and a chance to wind down with other UK roasteries.,
