The Climpson's well and truly got on the band-wagon of the World Cup and decided to organise our own version!

We organised for 8 of London's top specialty coffee roasteries to take part in a 5-aside football tournament in London Fields.

The teams involved:
Square Mile
Allpress
Caravan
Ozone
Workshop
Pact Coffee
Nude
and of course us

Over 5 weeks of stiff 5-aside football competition saw some better-than-expected play, some magic moves and of course some boozy sideline banter.

Sprudge.com even came to the party as well to watch the semi-final action.See what they had to say here: http://sprudge.com/great-london-coffee-roastery-football-league.html

FINALS

The second to last Wednesday in July saw the finals of the London Coffee Roasters Football Association World Championship Finals night upon us. Some hotly contested battles the week before probably took its toll on the roasters teams, as a relaxed vibe spread throughout London Fields.

First match pitted home town favourites Climpsons against East London powerhouse Square Mile. The MD for Climpsons getting his side underway only a few minutes in. It was an end to end match and shots fired from all positions. Square Mile’s continued pressure on the C&S defense finally broke through with a last minute strike to even the ledger. To pens we went.

Square Mile        2              X X O X X O X

Climpsons           3              X X O X X O O     3rd PLACE WINNERS!

The second match of the day was a bit of a speccy. Some great skills shown all around the pitch and some almost magical moments. Including a bicycle kick by Nude from around half way which needed to be tipped athletically by the Ozone keeper. The energy in this game made it exhausting to watch. Ozone prevailed as victors comfortably in the end, 2-0.

The third match – a bit of a stop gap. It was meant to be the crew from Workshop taking on Pact. With Pact withdrawing a few days before, it became a free for all. Player of the Game was a standout from Nicole of Climpsons, shin-kicking her way through the game (!!!).

THE GRAND FINAL. So much tension in the air. Nerves fluttering about like a field full of butterflies in Yorkshire. After great matches the week prior, all looked as if it would be a close affair as Caravan and Allpress moved handy opposition aside. This said, a close match it was not - Caravan running away with it, victors 10-1.

With trophy and fixies in tow, the teams took their sorrows and celebrations to the Pub in the Park where copious amounts of beer and bubbles were consumed. A fitting end to an absolute cracking tournament. Big thank you from the organisers!’
