The Story

The Fields is known as the adventurous coffee in our range and a key part of our forward-thinking desire for quality and innovation. This coffee represents our standing as one of the pioneers in the London coffee scene with its title a nod to our London Fields neighbourhood.

Emerging Asian coffees have a special place in the Climpson & Sons range with our roasting team working closely with our friends at Indochina Coffee to provide development feedback over a number of years. As their supply chain has grown we have seen the quality and traceability improve so dramatically that we are now able to offer unique microlots as The Fields. A huge step forward for a country that has been exporting specialty coffee for less than a decade.

Green Land estate lies on the road between Pyin Oo Lwin and Mogok, near the border of Mandalay Division and Northern Shan State. This is a family business led by U Sai Wan, who has childhood memories of seeing coffee farms along the road near Pyin Oo Lwin each time his parents took him from Yangon to visit family in Northern Shan.

U Sai Wan is a leading innovator in Myanmar’s specialty coffee industry, winning national quality competitions for his Green Land coffees. He also plays a key role in Myanmar Coffee Association, alongside his position as Sales Director at Mandalay Coffee Group. He operates the estate together with his uncle and aunt, along with two local agronomists and many local workers.

This unique lot is composed of SL-34, a variety more commonly found in Kenya, and processed as a natural, all resulting in a coffee that is rich in dried fruit and sticky sweetness.

Our ambition is to continue sourcing, roasting and crafting the finest coffees from the heart of East London.

We aim to ship our coffee as fresh as possible, however you may receive coffee roasted up to 7 days prior to the shipping date.

  • What grind type should I choose?

We offer multiple grind options from Cafetiere to Espresso and everything between. Our domestic espresso grind is slightly coarser and is perfect for home espresso machines, such as DeLonghi or Sage whereas the commercial espresso grind is better suited to commercial machines like La Marzocco or Sanremo. If you’re not sure what grind to choose please get in touch with our team at admin@climpsonandsons to see how they can help. Remember, pre-ground coffee is not an exact science and is only one of many brewing variables. For better brewing, why not take a look at one of our brew guides here https://climpsonandsons.com/blogs/brew-guides.

  • Can I order 1kg of coffee?

This is not something we currently offer but why not consider helping us reduce packaging by ordering a 2kg bag instead? Wholebean coffee has a longer shelf life than you might think, up to 3 months!
