The Story

Our Broadway Blend emphasises closer farm and import relationships working with many of the same coffees each year, selected for their unique representations of origin and terroir. This is our go-to balanced espresso on Broadway Market and pairs perfectly with milk.

The Details

The coffees from El Martillo are some of our all time favourites and this marks the fourth consecutive year we have purchased this washed lot. The coffee is grown in El Salvador’s mountain range of Apaneca Ilamatepec, Santa Ana, and El Martillo makes up part of the impressive Finca San Fransisco complex. The coffees are meticulously sorted and each lot is traceable to unique hillsides and sectors of the farm.

We last visited in 2016 and were amazed at the methodical approach to processing with this particular lot pulped and then soaked overnight before slowly drying on patios over two weeks. This process is more involved than many traditional washed methods but pays off with a cleaner and rounded flavour bringing smooth caramel and orange zest to the blend.

Located further north, in Guatemala's renowned region of Huehuetenango, Finca La Cumbre is another stand out each and every year. Producer Juan Bernardo has become a pioneer in expanding coffee production in the region where little coffee could previously grow at the colder higher altitudes. Curiously, the stark effects of climate change have actually helped make more of this land suitable for coffee production. The almost virgin soils reflects in the coffee with notes of sweet butterscotch and vanilla.
