The Story

Our Broadway Blend emphasises closer farm and import relationships working with many of the same coffees each year, selected for their unique representations of origin and terroir. This is our go-to balanced espresso on Broadway Market and pairs perfectly with milk.

The Details

The coffees from the Colombian region of Antioquia are emerging with many uniquely different flavour profiles on offer. Last year we roasted a Tabi variety from producer Juan Saldarriaga whilst this caturra lot comes from his neighbours Hernan and Eugenio Prieto Soto. The two brothers oversee Villa Clabelina, a 22 hectare farm near the small town of Ciudad Bolivar, and are part of a Coffee Growers Association focussed on improving their coffee through environmental, social and economically sustainable processes. Sharing resources with their neighbour they have built new processing facilities resulting in clean and intensely sweet coffees lending a grape, vanilla and liquorice notes to this version of the Broadway Blend.

On the other side of the blend we have selected a classic Brazil from Fazenda Santissimo, located within Patrocínio, Minas Gerais. Having only recently moved to specialty coffee production this is the first season this coffee has been exported to the UK. Having met farm owner Juninho in Brazil we cupped his coffee alongside local legends Bruno Souza and local agronomy specialist Marquinho do Cerrdao. Fazenda Santissimo had been working with both parties to improve quality and yields with promising results after only 2 years. His farm is divided into separate sections by variety with this lot comprised of Red Catuai. Red Catuai is a hybrid variety hailing from Mundo Novo and Caturra, historically developed within Brazil by the Campinas Agronomic Institute (IAC). As a high yielding, shorter stature coffee plant, Catuai is hugely popular in Brazil and now forms the basis of close to half of their specialty varieties.
