People. Planet. Processing.

Earlier this year, in the depths of winter, we cupped pre-shipment samples from Burundi. They stood out immediately—bright, sweet, and full of life—exactly the kind of coffee we love to drink and share.

For Fields, our more adventurous coffees, this felt like a natural fit—something vibrant, expressive, and a little unexpected.

It had been a while since we last sourced from Burundi, and this was the right moment to bring it back into focus. Not just for its quality, but for what it represents: clarity and potential.

We partnered with Omwani, whose dedication to East Africa is clear in the coffees they source, making this lot not just exceptional, but worth showcasing.

Grown in the Mutambu Commune of Burundi's Bujumbura region, this coffee is the collective work of 173 smallholders. Upon harvesting their coffee cherries they delivered this to Migoti Coffee, who processed it at their washing station in Migoti Hill. Here, the coffee was sorted, left to ferment for one day, then pulped and laid out to dry with the pulped cherry fruit for 3-4 weeks on raised beds.

Migoti Coffee is a Burundian coffee producer founded in 2015 by engineers Pontien Ntunzwenimana and Dan Brose. They aim to improve the livelihoods of local coffee farmers by connecting them with international buyers through quality processing, transparent supply chains & community development initiatives. In this case, Migoti have partnered with Omwani, a UK-based importer specialising in unique and sustainable East African coffees.
