Job Description: Senior / Business Development Executive
Reporting to Commercial Director, dotted line to Commercial Operations Manager.
Remuneration: £32-36,000 pa
Commission: as per Commission Guidelines
Climpson & Sons is a B Corp Certified award winning, independent, specialty coffee retail and wholesale business; sourcing, roasting, and crafting the finest specialty coffees from the heart of East London.

Hailing from our roots as a market stall in Broadway Market in 2002, we are pioneers in the evolving UK specialty coffee sector. We’ve grown organically from a busy community led cafe and coffee bar, to a leading specialty coffee roastery and training academy and as a home for collaborative innovation in food and drink.
We have experience and expertise. We currently work with over 300 wholesale customers, supporting their cafes, restaurants, bars, bakeries, hotels, offices etc with comprehensive 360 coffee solutions. We’ve worked with some brilliant businesses over the years and our evolving offering caters to independent cafes to multi site operators.
We have some really exciting things in the pipeline and we are looking for a dynamic individual ready to get stuck in and build our wholesale business.
The role:
The Senior / Business Development Exec role is to actively gain new Climpson qualified business and contribute to company growth, sustainability, brand impact and profitability.
This role will require collaboration with the Directors to create a sales plan and to create a lead qualification structure for active sales. You will be responsible for maximising sales potential and justifying sales plans to the upper management.
Whilst we are an established company with a team of nearly 50, we want to continue to develop our knowledge, skills and offering, create accessibility to specialty coffee for wholesale customers and be there to work with our customers to develop their businesses sustainably. With some exciting projects in the pipeline, we are looking for someone to utilise their experience working in specialty coffee or hospitality to broaden our networks and establish connections with new and current industries. Our approach is pretty holistic, leadership and communication are important to us and giving a sh*t about our customers and their needs is a must.
Responsibilities and competencies:
Active Coffee Sales
- Work with the directors to design and implement a strategic sales plan that expands the company's customer base and ensures its strong presence. Incorporating the addition of a second sales rep.
- Work with the directors to create a commercial offer and package options to go to market with
- Research and identify potential target markets and compile a list of prospects. Create a qualifying Protocol and matrix of ideal customers ensuring it meets Climpson’s criteria. This will lead to active sales in new markets.
- Consider and include commercial prospects previously not considered viable for our brand. Examples such as multi-site cafes, offices, hotels and other commercial spaces.
- Work with the Production team to ensure availability of coffee products and forecasting for potential growth / large customers
- To conduct a professional and relevant pitch, adapting style to suit. Opt for a strategy that fits within Climpson’s values and business goals.
- Identify new markets and trends, including new products and competition movements.
- Manage a full competitor analysis of direct and indirect competitors in the marketplace.
- Communicate and assist the Directors to create and set a budget and forecasting for equipment, coffee, credit terms etc
- Be a face of the company and attend industry events and networking opportunities to meet new prospects in line with qualifying / customer protocol.
- Full documentation of prospect and customer info in CRM
Landing & Hand over
- To manage negotiations towards signing up and making an order
- Setting the expectations to ensure the client has full understanding of commitment by all parties to responsibilities of successful completion and handover.
- To work with the team to carefully assess and communicate what is required of individuals/ departments to deliver the end result; ensure all parties are fully briefed
- To always visit every client for handover, feedback and customer relations
Account Management
- Build and promote strong, long-lasting customer relationships by partnering with them and understanding their needs, ensuring this is communicated along the chain as early in the process as possible.
- Work with Account Managers to ensure new customer process is handed over, offer feedback and support
- Work with the logistics team to ensure smooth delivery of equipment and installations, as well as ensuring the new customer process is followed.
Reporting
- Provide a written monthly report to present pipeline, sales, revenue and expenses, adherence to budget and realistic forecasts to the Directors. This report will detail successes, challenges, opportunities and any additional staff or other resources needed to achieve KPIs and company goals.
- Completion of weekly report as structured by MD.
Looking for someone who:
- Has minimum 2-3 years of experience in specialty coffee with minimum 1 year in a business development/ account management related role. We do provide training, however you have to be familiar with the basics of sales: leads, pipelines, pitching, closing (especially closing :), and have some success under your belt.
- Enjoys talking about coffee, and passionate about hospitality
- Building community. Enjoys being visible in the industry and networking with people from independent cafes through to commercial businesses.
- Is organised and has attention to detail. Has persistence and patience to follow up and follow through.
- Is open minded, optimistic and has a can do attitude.
- A brilliant communicator - to the team and to the customer.
- A dynamic approach, ready to make things happen!
Details:
- The job is based out of the Climpsons HQ (Helmsley Place, Hackney) but will be a mixture of office based work and fieldwork with great emphasis on the latter!
- Working hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week. Occasional work outside office hours may be required but not the norm
