People. Planet. Processing.

Melvin Mauricio Cálix is a third-generation coffee farmer from Marcala, Honduras. He grew up helping his family during harvest, learning the rhythms of farm life from an early age. In 2012, he began producing coffee himself, continuing a family tradition that now spans three generations.
Melvin farms Finca Grevillea with his mother, Victorina. They bought the neglected farm in 2008, restoring it over the years and bringing its coffee production back to life. The farm takes its name from the Grevillea trees that grow alongside coffee, oranges and mandarins, with flowers, fruit trees and birds making up much of the landscape.
After coffee leaf rust damaged the farm, Melvin began renovating the coffee plots in 2013 and has increasingly adopted organic farming practices. Since joining Grupo COMSA in 2015, he has also had the opportunity to experiment with different processing methods and focus more closely on coffee quality.
This natural microlot is made up of 80% Parainema, alongside Anacafé 14 and Icatú. The ripe cherries are carefully hand-picked and dried whole in the sun, taking between 15 and 25 days depending on the weather.
The 2025–26 harvest brought some challenging, cooler drying conditions, but careful processing helped Melvin preserve the quality of the coffee. For him, that quality creates opportunities to reach specialty markets while strengthening the role coffee plays in his family’s future.
